The firm’s civil litigators advise and represent major commercial banks, investment banks, hedge funds, insurance companies, investment advisers, broker-dealers, accounting firms, and Fortune 500 public companies (including companies in the advertising, aircraft, pharmaceutical, and textile industries). We also represent individual professionals in the financial services industry, senior management of public and private companies and public company directors.
We represent these clients in litigation involving the capital markets; complex commercial disputes over contract, tort, antitrust, and intellectual property claims and executive employment and compensation issues; creditors’rights and bankruptcy; and the securities laws and regulations. We evaluate litigation risks and arbitrage positions for clients before investments are made and understand the interplay between litigation risks and business judgments. We regularly represent clients in parallel proceedings in which civil litigations are accompanied by criminal or regulatory investigations.
Members of our civil litigation group have appeared in federal trial, appellate, and bankruptcy courts throughout the United States, and cumulatively have decades of experience with the New York state courts, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, and the Second Circuit Court of Appeals. Our litigators have argued dozens of cases before various federal and state courts of appeals and have authored several hundred appellate briefs. We also have extensive experience in arbitration and mediation. Many of our litigators have served as Assistant United States Attorneys, in senior positions with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, or as law clerks to judges in the U.S. District Courts and Courts of Appeals.
