Pro bono work is integral to RK&O’s values and day-to-day activities. We believe every attorney has an obligation to support our communities at large through the provision of high quality legal services. We regularly partner with organizations serving disadvantaged individuals or groups, non-profit institutions advancing the arts and education, and other associations coordinating volunteer legal services in our communities.
RK&O encourages its attorneys to perform at least 50 hours of pro bono work annually. Under the aegis of the firm’s pro bono committee, pro bono projects are given the same staffing priority and attention as any firm matter, and are supervised by partners with the full support of RK&O’s resources. Associates who participate in pro bono activities are credited with fully billable hours, and pro bono service is given the same weight and consideration as other firm work in the context of performance evaluations.
Each year since 2013, RK&O has been named a platinum level honoree of the Raising The Bar in D.C. Campaign, which recognizes firms who donate a benchmark percentage of their D.C. office revenue to local legal services organizations. The District of Columbia Court of Appeals and the Superior Court of the District of Columbia also named one of our counsel to the 2015 Capital Pro Bono Honor Roll for pro bono service.
