Richards Kibbe & Orbe partner Shari Brandt was quoted in the Washington Business Journal's article, "VW CEO steps down, but will shakeup hit U.S. operation?" The CEO of Volkswagen, the Germany-based auto manufacturer, recently resigned after the company admitted to rigging software on millions of clean diesel cars. The company will face a criminal investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice and could also be fined up to $18 billion for violation of the Clean Air Act.
Ms. Brandt said that in terms of criminal charges the Justice Department will need to prove an intent to circumvent the law. The criminal investigation could take over a year, she added.
