Richards Kibbe & Orbe LLP today announced the launch of the firm’s Board & Director Advisory Group.
The Group’s mission is to serve corporate boards and independent directors in two key areas: keeping boards and directors out of legal and media cross-hairs by proactively identifying and remediating critical governance and regulatory risks before they can spark a crisis; and, for companies that experience a crisis, helping boards, committees and directors craft the most effective response. The Board & Director Advisory Group operates on RK&O’s hallmark model of proactive, agile and multidisciplinary client counseling.
The Board & Director Advisory Group draws on the firm’s deep experience over three decades counseling companies, boards, committees, directors and senior executives to diagnose and address governance-related risks before they spawn active problems, and managing problems that turn into crises. The Group’s members include litigators, regulatory and criminal defense specialists, securities and governance experts and corporate lawyers, any combination of which can be deployed in a targeted fashion to meet a client’s particular needs. The Group features experienced partners who have served at senior levels in the Department of Justice, the Securities and Exchange Commission and public companies.
“Our Board & Director Advisory Group gives formal shape to RK&O’s long-standing practice of counseling boards and directors on high-stakes governance issues,” said Lee S. Richards III, one of the firm’s founding partners and a former Assistant U.S. Attorney in Manhattan. “As events of the last year have shown, boards and directors are under a harsher spotlight than ever, which means they can benefit from crisis prevention just as much as they can benefit from crisis response.”
“RK&O has an exceptional constellation of skills and backgrounds that allows us to pinpoint and address governance-related risks before they become crises,” said Michael D. Mann, the founder of RK&O’s Washington D.C. office and the first Director of the Office of International Affairs at the SEC. “Our Board & Director Advisory Group is our vehicle to deliver those capabilities to our board and director clients seamlessly, as we have been doing for three decades at RK&O.”
